The Oreo Black Professor in Blackface
by Sabrina Dawkins
The breaking of a spirit,
God showed me in a dream,
a future black professor
in a classroom learning
from a white man
with dark brown hair
and a German accent.
There were no black professors
to show him
what it was to be black,
no father at home to mold him.
So his father was his white professor,
and from him, he developed
a counterfeit black identity,
which he wore like a Black Power fist
pasted on awkwardly,
but as a white symbol
with black outlining.
I say this not to shame him
but to warn his future students,
who won’t get a black nationalist,
only a black face filled with white knowledge.
