Israel’s Children Choose Their Enemy
by Sabrina Dawkins
Israel saw his children walk away
in blue jeans
and other nations’ hair.
Coils that protect,
an embarrassment
to cover.
Brown skin that protects hated.
The Spirit’s good design
wasn’t enough.
They wanted a god
that they could touch:
fast food
makeup
TV sets
fashion.
So with a model’s switch,
they sashay through restaurants
coveting the blue-vein genes
of their oppressor,
learning his ways
and teaching their children,
spoiling their seed
with the oppressor’s genes
to get farther from Jacob
and closer to Cain.
