Hot as Hell

Hot as Hell
by Sabrina Dawkins

People don’t know
how to grow crops anymore.
It was dark.
I went to the grocery store,
and for convenience
there was an orange gas tube
coming out of the pavement
at each parking space.
I wondered if this dream meant
orange fire slowly heats
the earth from below.
God knows
gas and cars slowly
make metaphors of hell true.
