The Fruit of the Devil

The Fruit of the Devil
by Sabrina Dawkins

The painting by René Magritte
The Son of Man
in which a pale green apple
takes the place
of a white man’s face
should’ve been titled
The Son of the Serpent.
The pale green horse
is the death horse.
And the metaphor
of eating the forbidden fruit
brought the seed of Satan
into the world.
Devil,
influencing your sons’ art
without telling them
who they are
is indeed cruel.
