Abram, the Confident Warrior and Man of God – Genesis Chapter 14
by Sabrina Dawkins

Rephaims were giants that existed after the flood. And King Chedorlaomer and his allies defeated them in battle in the days of Lot. The king of Sodom, the king of Gomorrah, and their allies went to war with Chedorlaomer and his allies and were defeated. And they plundered Sodom and Gomorrah, including Lot, who lived in Sodom, and his possessions. An ally of Abram escaped and told him. And when Abram heard that his kinsman had been captured, he armed 318 trained servants who had been born in his house. They divided up, and at night they attacked and defeated the captors of Lot and his possessions. And Abram retrieved Lot, his goods, and the people taken with him.

Of course the king of Sodom was happy that Abram had defeated Chedorlaomer, king of Elam, and his allies. Melchizedek was king of Salem, and he brought Abram wine and bread. As a priest of God, Melchizedek blessed Abram and announced that God had won the battle for Abram, that God was responsible for the defeat of Chedorlaomer and his allies.

The king of Sodom only wanted the people who had been taken, and he offered all the retrieved goods to Abram. But Abram’s faith had greatly strengthened from the time of denying that Sarai was his wife in Egypt. He did not take anything from the king of Sodom because he did not want the king of Sodom to say that he himself had made Abram rich. Abram trusted in and depended on God. However, he allowed his allies to take of the goods offered by the king of Sodom.

Abram has turned into a confident warrior and defender of his family. And Melchizedek recognizes him as being of God. Abram is truly blessed.
