Children Robbed of their Adulthood
by Sabrina Dawkins
While players ran
to opposite end of the court,
Michael Jordan lowered the goal,
when Kobe and LeBron weren’t looking.
He did it so slowly,
so sneakily,
it went from ten feet
to five feet before I noticed.
Then I exposed it.
Kobe and LeBron were still
on opposite end of the court,
teammates in the game.
I thought of all the young black boys
who want to grow up to play
a playground sport,
get rich intoxicating fans
with bread and circuses
while stunting brains.
Underneath five-foot goal was an empty can.
The children were robbed of their adulthood
by worshipping as god a man.
